Senior
cadets from Dunstable Detachment have been collecting luxury items
from friends and family to send out to troops in Afghanistan as
a early Christmas present.
Working with
Support our Soldiers (SOS) LCpl Rhiane Lindsay, 16, has taken the
lead and coordinated the detachment’s efforts to provide our
soldiers with some items that will give comfort to our soldiers.
LCpl Lindsay says “The unbelievable job they are doing out
there is close to all our hearts and we want to help in any way
we can, showing support to those that inspire us”.
Over the past
month, the senior cadets have touting the cause to the rest of the
detachment and all their friends and family. The support has been
overwhelming with over 20 boxes made up of goodies to be sent to
Afghanistan in the next week.
The detachment
saw a break in their training last week, providing an opportunity
for them to write letters of support to accompany the gifts as a
further sign of support and hope to help raise morale. LCpl Kyle
Burgess, 15, told us “It’s too easy for the general
public to forget what our servicemen and women are doing for us
hundreds of miles away. Now it our time to show them our support,
especially at the time of year that is all about giving and caring”.
The parcels
being sent, via Support our Soldiers should reach our troops before
Christmas.
