Football
fans joined army cadets from Watford and South Oxhey in a minute's
silence during celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the
cadet forces.
Thirty cadets
collected money for the armed forces charity Help for Heroes ahead
of Watford FC's home match with Peterborough at Vicarage Road Stadium
on Saturday.
The teams joined
the cadets and fans in a minute's silence before kick-off, when
the Last Post was sounded.
At half-time
the cadets performed a drill display on the pitch.
The event took
place as part of the Cadet150 celebrations to mark the formation
of the cadet forces organisations and involves the Army Cadet Force
(ACF), Combined Cadet Force, Sea Cadets and Air Training Corps.
Staff Sergeant
Terri Claridge, commanding officer of South Oxhey ACF, said: “We
are really grateful to Watford FC for letting us come along to raise
money for such a good cause but also to raise the profile of the
ACF.
“Last
year these cadets raised £5,500 in aid of the annual Poppy
Appeal. The cadet forces offer such great opportunities for thousands
of young people across the UK.
“Cadets
regularly take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, St John
Ambulance training, adventure and activity weekends, and the highlight
of the year annual camp. So don’t be shy, come along one evening
and find out what it is all about and perhaps you to could 'Live
the Adventure'.”
